Learn to read the Bible effectively

If you find the Bible difficult or frustrating at times, then this seminar is for you. Eight concise and informative sessions are delivered in a friendly and comfortable environment. They aim to equip you with the skills required to understand scriptural teaching for yourself and benefit from a new appreciation of the Bible. Whether you are already familiar with the Bible or are new to reading it, this seminar will provide you with plenty of information and, hopefully, the desire to begin reading more effectively.

what you will learn...

  • Who wrote the Bible - where did it come from?
  • How to remove the "mystery" which many religions cast about the Bible
  • How to use cross-references
  • How to learn more in less time with effective study tools
  • How to overcome the difficult language sometimes used in the Bible
  • To overview each book of the Bible in a concise, easy to understand manner
  • History and chronology (the order of events) in the Bible
  • Three tips on letting the Bible interpret itself
  • How to read carefully (e.g. Adam and Eve didn't eat an apple)
  • How to overcome boredom when reading
  • To prove for yourself the Bible is not a work of fiction
  • When an understanding of Hebrew and Greek can help, but why it isn't essential to Bible understanding
  • What the title "Christ" means, plus plenty of other definitions to make Bible reading easier
  • How science is reconciled with the scriptures
  • What happens at death
  • Why quoting a single scripture is dangerous (how to keep passages in context)
  • About the Jews and why they are so important in the Bible
  • Why the Bible is intentionally difficult to understand in parts and how it can be simplified
  • How so many interpretations of the Bible developed
  • Why there are four gospel accounts
  • When and how to gain an understanding of the book of Revelation
  • Why God allows so much suffering and wickedness in the world
  • How critics of the Bible "prove" their criticism
  • What the differences are between Bible versions and how to choose the best version for yourself
  • Why there is an Old Testament and a New Testament
  • How the Bible deals with the age-old question, "Is man good or evil?"
  • How to use a concordance and a lexicon
  • How to use a simple plan for reading the whole Bible in a year

7 reasons why you should attend...

  1. No obligation. No one will attempt to "convert" or "save" you.
  2. Free. You will never be asked for money, to purchase materials or to make donations of any kind - and we mean NEVER!
  3. Make your Bible study more productive with less time. You will understand more and know where to look to keep it moving at an enjoyable pace.
  4. If you claim to believe in God, surely you would want to understand for yourself His purpose for mankind.
  5. Take advantage of a legitimate opportunity to break free from the television. Enjoy time with your family, spouse or friends learning about God in a friendly and relaxed environment.
  6. Leave at any time. If you ever find the programme inadequate you may leave with no strings attached.
  7. Learn and develop skills which enable you to read the Bible with more understanding than ever before. Many people desire to learn but initial frustration discourages and hinders progress.

Plus... Everyone attending receives extensive free materials including a ring binder of class outlines to keep your own notes. The handouts will also allow you to review material at your own pace between classes.

Frequently asked Questions

Q. Will I be asked to be "saved" or "join" the Christadelphians at the end of the seminars?

A. No! You will not be pressured during or at the completion of the classes. Our hope is that the classes will encourage you to draw your own conclusions about God and His plan. These classes will equip you with necessary tools to make your own decisions about what you have learned.

Q. Why are you doing this?

A. The Bible is scarcely read in today's fast paced society. Our faith and belief in God makes us want to share His message and truth. We believe that the Bible teaches us what is right and good in directing our lives and our families. In Christ's day the apostles spread the gospel message and the commandments of God.

Q. What if everyone there knows more than I do?

A. The classes are run in such a way as to make everyone feel comfortable. No-one is ever put "on the spot". Teaching sessions alternate between assuming some scriptural knowledge and assuming no knowledge of the scriptures.

Q. Who will be paying for the seminars?

A. All expenses are being paid for by the Christadelphians in the area. The course and the material provided for you are free.

About the
Presenters

All of our presenters are experienced, having taught both groups and individuals. As members of the Christadelphian congregation in Nottingham, they are committed to weekly Bible study. They hope they can help you to a fuller understanding of the Bible.

About the
Christadelphians

Christadelphians adopted their name in the mid 1800's. It means "Brethren in Christ". Christadelphians are to be found in many countries of the world. They are bound together by a common faith in the gospel preached by Jesus and his apostles in the First Century. It was this faith, and its appeal to men and women of all walks of life, which brought the community into existence. Christadelphians do not believe that any of their members, past or present, have received any special revelation from God, and they have no paid ministry or central organisation. The faith of the Christadelphians rests solely on the Bible as the inspired word of God.
